The future looks brighter for Canadian immigration applicants – the IRCC has just approved the Pearson Test of English!

I’m sure you’re curious about what this Pearson English test is and why people are talking about its approval. Let’s discover all about it today together, The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a computer-based language competency test designed to evaluate non-native speakers’ proficiency in the English language. Using a series of tasks and questions, the exam evaluates candidates’ English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Results are available within 5 business days and the process is entirely digital. The exam is acknowledged by immigration authorities in several countries and is approved by many universities, governments, and employers worldwide. The PTE exam seeks to offer an accurate and trustworthy assessment of a test taker’s English language competency, assisting them in proving their competence and achieving their academic or professional objectives.

Now that we’ve established about what we’re going to discuss today. Allow me to take you back in time, to the history of the Pearson Test of English. PTE was created in 1982 by the University of London Schools Examination Board; yes, it is that old. The Examination Board merged with the Business & Technological Council in 1996 to form Edexcel, the UK’s largest examining body for academic and vocational qualifications (BTEC).

So, let’s move ahead and learn what is PTE Essential? It is a version of the Pearson Test of English (PTE) designed specifically for the non-native English speakers who need to prove their English proficiency for academic purposes or immigration purposes. Pearson’s PTE Essential is a new English language test created to fulfil the IRCC’s language proficiency requirements for Canadian immigration applicants. Because IRCC has different language criteria for study permit applicants, international students must generally take the “Academic” version of a language proficiency test. PTE Essential provides a quick and dependable method of demonstrating English proficiency, with results typically available within two business days. The test is delivered via a secure online platform and is available globally, allowing test takers from all over the world to participate.

It’s time we find about the approval of PTE is,

• The PTE Essentials approval signifies that there is 5 total language test which includes the  CELPIP and IELTS General Training, and the TEF Canada and TCF Canada, the two French language tests designated by IRCC and will join these in “late 2023”.
• The PTE is an internationally recognized test that evaluates a candidate’s English proficiency at a level that will be equivalent to an average Canadian citizen.
• The PTE is offered at all levels of English proficiency and is accepted by Canadian immigration authorities as evidence of proficiency in English or French.
• In addition to completing an IRCC-designated language test, candidates for Canadian immigration or citizenship must also achieve the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score that is set for the given immigration or citizenship pathway.

IRCC has not specified when applicants will be able to submit PTE Essential in support of their Canadian immigration applications, though, it has stated on its website that it expects to be able to do so by the end of 2023.
