SPOUSE VISA

SPOUSE VISA

One of the two types of visas given by Canadian Immigration is a spouse visa. Unlike other forms of visa, which are temporary residents, the Canadian spouse visa is a Permanent Resident Visa. The Canadian Spouse Visa is available to citizens who are married to Canadian citizens or Canadian permanent residents. Those who were given the visa could reside and work in Canada. The spouses of the candidates for this sort of visa must sponsor them. It is possible to apply for sponsorship whether the person being petitioned lives inside or outside of Canada.

ELIGIBILITY

In order to sponsor an application for a Canadian Spouse Visa, you must:

  • Be a citizen of Canada or a permanent residence
  • Be at least 18 years old, be willing to sign a written agreement with the Government of Canada or Quebec,
  • Be able to support his or her spouse's basic needs for a set period of time, and not be in default on a court-ordered support order, bankrupt, in prison, charged with a serious offence, or be under a removal order (if a permanent resident)
