On March 1, the province of British Columbia invited 136 IT professionals to apply for a provincial nomination. The BC PNP Tech, a branch of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program, sent out the invites (BC PNP). Using the BC PNP, British Columbia hopes to bring in skilled foreign employees who are in great demand in the province. Permanent residency is possible for anyone who desires to settle in British Columbia.
Immigrants invited to apply for one of British Columbia’s Express Entry BC and Skills immigration categories must fulfil the standards of the System for Skill and Immigration Registration (SIRS).
To be eligible for this draw, applicants required a provincial score of 85 or above in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate subcategories. Candidates who have been invited to apply for the nomination now have 30 calendar days to do so.
About British Columbia’s PNP Tech program
The BC PNP Tech was started as a pilot programme in May 2017 as a result of a labour market analysis that concluded that the main problem confronting BC’s technology industry was access to talent. British Columbia deemed the initiative so successful that it decided to make it an ongoing programme. Designed to help British Columbia’s technology industry acquire and select overseas talent when competent local personnel are unavailable.
Fast-track immigration for high-demand IT employees and overseas students is provided through the BC PNP Tech. Applicants must be registered in one of BC’s current provincial immigration streams and must have a valid work offer for at least 12 months in one of 29 qualifying professions, to be eligible for the stream.
BC PNP Tech employment offers must be for a minimum of a year, with at least 120 days left at the time of application to the BC PNP. Unlike other BC PNP streams. Also, it must be full-time and come from a province-eligible company.
In the province’s tech programme, top-scoring applicants who match the qualifying conditions are offered invitations every week.
If you’ve been requested to apply for a provincial nomination, make sure you do it fully and accurately. Most tech applications will be approved in two to three months after this is completed.
The candidate will get a nomination confirmation from IRCC to apply for permanent residence under the Provincial Nominee Program Class if they are accepted.
In the Comprehensive Ranking System, PNP applicants automatically get 600 points, which increases their chances of being invited to apply for permanent residence via the Express Entry system.
